We prevent

Preventative dentistry is what we're all about to help you reduce the need for dental treatment in the future.

Children are our special patients

Children are wholeheartedly the centre of your family life, which is why we believe it’s so important to give them the highest level of care. We’re dedicated to creating positive dental experiences for all children – ensuring that you and your child feel confident in our care.

It is important that children visit the dentist from an early age so the surroundings become familiar and comfortable. At Comber Dental Practice along with general check-ups, we offer dietary advice and preventative treatments such as fissure sealants. Our custom-made mouthguard service is popular and ensures maximum protection against dental injury during contact sports. Children requiring teeth straightening will be referred to an orthodontist.

Our aim is to ensure your kids and teenagers understand how to take care of their teeth and benefit from excellent smiles for years to come.

Some of the services that are available for our younger patients

Inhalation Sedation

One of the best and safest ways to reduce dental fear in children is to carry out treatment under ‘inhalation sedation’. Comber Dental Practice is one of the few practice’s in the area to offer inhalation sedation.

Fissure Sealants

This treatment helps prevent decay by applying a protective layer to the chewing surface of children’s teeth. A quick and pain-free treatment with huge benefits.

Children’s Days

Experience our fun days dedicated to children. Encouraging your children to have a positive time visiting the dentist – it doesn’t have to be scary or stressful.

NHS

All children are treated as NHS patients and their dental treatment is free.

What’s special about Children’s Days?

Children can feel nervous about visiting the dentist, and may pick up on signals from anxious adults. To combat this we’ve created special days for children’s appointments. We try to create a bit of a party atmosphere with dentists and nurses wearing cartoon character scrubs and we hand out goodie bags and balloons.

The days are very successful and the relaxed, happy environment helps children feel at ease, making sure that their next trip to the dentist will be easier.

For parents’ convenience these sessions take place during the holiday periods.

Inhalation sedation

Inhalation sedation is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen breathed through a nose piece. It reduces any uncomfortable sensations during treatment and helps your child feel calm, relaxed and accept treatment more readily. Your child will remain awake and conscious throughout the procedure and will be able to talk.

Inhalation sedation at Comber Dental Practice is provided by our highly skilled team that includes sedation-trained dentists and nurses. So you can rest assured that your children will receive the highest level of care with us.

Fissure sealants

A fissure sealant is a protective layer that is brushed onto chewing surfaces of children’s teeth. This ‘seals off’ the tooth’s surface from the bacteria and plaque that causes cavities to form.
Sealants are typically applied to the molar teeth as these do the most chewing and have deep crevices in which bacteria can accumulate. The sealant fills in these fissures and safeguards the surface from the bacteria.

Prevention is what we’re all about – with the added bonus is that the application process is quick and painless.
